San Diego Yoga Studio is San Diego’s largest Iyengar Yoga studio. Centrally located in the Bay Park/Clairemont area since 1990, SDYS offers a range of classes and special courses for beginners and advanced students in the style of BKS Iyengar. Iyengar Yoga is for everyone!
Shri BKS Iyengar developed the Iyengar method, and after more than sixty years of practice and study is considered the foremost Yoga teacher in the world. The Iyengar method is precise and integrates alignment, balance, strength, and flexibility in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). By using props such as blocks, bolsters, and straps, Iyengar Yoga becomes achievable to students of all levels and experience and can be practiced by students with health and physical challenges.
Yoga increases vitality, concentration and a sense of well being. The relaxation reached through practice brings one to a more centered space, ready to meet the demands of modern life.

Ease into Backbends
Sthira Sukham Asanam, steadiness, ease and foundation of the asanas brings benevolence in spirit. — Patanjali Yoga Sutras In this workshop we will explore the foundations that are required in practicing backbends and use that grounding and stability to go deeper into more intermediate backbends. Backbends are uplifting, create joy and energy and we will playfully explore how to safely practice backbends.
